However, before the great race could take place, Dubai Millennium suffered a career-ending injury in training at Newmarket and the eagerly anticipated match had to be abandoned. In her depiction of The Race that Never Was, Susan Crawford has painted Dubai Millennium, ridden by Frankie Dettori, and Montjeu, ridden by Mick Kinane, neck and neck a furlong from home. Who won?
